E. Niehoff, Nikko and Valeo. In addition to these OEM lines, J & N has its own branded electrical aftermarket line of new and remanufactured parts and units. J & N complements the starter and alternator offerings with a number of other heavy duty electrical accessories such as gauges, switches, shop supplies and lighting from such well known companies as Associated Equipment, Cole Hersee, Datcon, Stewart Warner, Ecco, Dynatex, Perma-Coil, Pertronix, Pollak, Seymour, Siemens, Vanner and Zenith Carburetors. To better service local customers, J & N has a 5 station unit service area. Our History During the summer of 1954, a young man and his father dared to open a general automotive repair shop in the basement of a building in Cincinnati. The building, at 4030 Reading Road, would be the place where young John would take in all kinds of automotive repair, but he preferred electrical work. After a short year and seeing the need for more room, John relocated to a Mobil Gas Station at the corner of Tennessee and Reading in Cincinnati. After servicing an increasing number of patrons, J & N saw a need to stock service parts. During the last year at this location, John started doing detached service work, began stocking some service parts and hired two employees. In 1958, John returned to his original location and had a store built above the original basement location. During the next six years, J & N became known as a specialized service outlet for Delco Remy and other related OEM electrical product lines. From 1964 through 1968, Motorola, Prestolite, Westinghouse, Ideal and Weatherhead were added to the J & N product line offerings. Also in 1964, John's father N. C. Kuechly, who retired after 33 years at C. V. Maescher Company, joined his son as a partner in the company. Busting at the seams with all the electrical service parts and replacement units, J & N needed more room. During the summer of 1968, J & N and it's 15 employees relocated to a 13,000 square foot building at 10520 Chester Road in Woodlawn. Sales continued to grow, as did the number of employees. By 1972 J & N employed 27 people, and had sales double the 1968 figures. J & N also added Leece Neville to it's product lines. When a second floor level above the entire parts department and pallet racks around the service department failed to provide the necessary space required, the decision was made to expand further. A 17,000 square foot warehouse was leased in May of 1972 on Spartan Drive in Woodlawn. The service department on Chester Road was enlarged while the Spartan Drive facility became the warehouse and service distributor. After the untimely death of John's father, the partnership became a corporation in 1973. As the company continued to grow, J & N moved from it's two separate facilities to a new 29,000 square foot building at 10280 Chester Road, designed and constructed specifically to accommodate the growing business and provide the necessary facilities for greater efficiency and ease of operation. In 1981, J & N expanded its market penetration into the Atlanta, Georgia area by the acquisition of IPM s warehouse. Team Auto Electric became the name of the new, wholly owned subsidiary of J & N which operated until 1986. In December of 1987, J & N moved into it's current facility, a specially designed 67,000 square foot building at 1201 Glendale-Milford Road in Woodlawn. The new facility supports the growing J & N, with additional space in practically all areas and departments, employing over seventy five people. John continued to be active in the business until 1996, when he passed the reins to his two sons, Tom and Nick Kuechly. John A. Kuechly, founder of J & N Auto Electric, Inc. went to meet his Savior on Tuesday, June 22, 2004. John will be sadly missed by his family, co-workers and many friends in the electrical rebuilding industry. John enjoyed his family, friends and especially his grandchildren.
